The Breakaway Miles

The Breakaway Mile takes place at four finish lines of the Amgen Tour of California, prior to the stage conclusion of the professional race.  The one-mile ride is sponsored by Amgen to help raise awareness of the Breakaway from Cancer initiative, which supports those who help people fighting cancer.  This event also celebrates the many scientific innovations that have and will lead to new treatments for cancer patients.

Join 11-time Tour de France veteran George Hincapie for the 2008 Breakaway from Cancer™ fundraising ride in Palo Alto. CA. The Breakaway from Cancer™ charity ride, sponsored by Amgen to benefit non-profit partners The Wellness Community and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, will feature a 25-mile course and finish line festivities.

Amgen Cycling Club Hosts Ride to Benefit Breakaway from Cancer
Thousand Oaks, CA
Join Bob Roll, former member of the original 7-Eleven Cycling Team, for this ride featuring 25 and 50-mile courses and a mini-Expo at the finish line.  The ride is sponsored by the Amgen Cycling Club in Thousand Oaks.  All proceeds will benefit The Wellness Community and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.

PedalFest 2008 will not only get your heart pumping, it will help support Breakaway from Cancer™. At selected Union Bank locations, you can make a minimum $5 donation and ride a stationary bike for five minutes. For every mile you ride, Union Bank, Amgen Tour of California and AEG will each donate $1 to the Breakaway from Cancer™ initiative benefiting The Wellness Community and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.  Refreshments and entertainment will be provided at each location.

Breakaway From Cancer Initiative Reaches Record Crowds at 2007 Amgen Tour of California
On Sunday, February 25, as Stage 7, the final stage of the 2007 Amgen Tour of California rolled in to Long Beach, it was clear that the crowds of spectators exceeded expectations, breaking the record attendance of 1.3 million for the 2006 Amgen Tour and setting a new record, nearly 1.6 million, as largest single sporting event in California history. PedalFest 2007
PedalFest 2007 - an Amgen Tour of California pre-event - was a unique, stationary cycling fundraiser in which miles pedaled earned matched dollars. For a $5 minimum donation, individuals were invited to ride a stationary bike at select Union Bank branches for five minutes, and Union Bank of California, AEG and the Amgen Tour of California each donated $1 for every mile ridden to support the Breakaway from CancerTM initiative. Breakaway from Cancer Charity Rides
Before the professional cyclists hit the road for the second Amgen Tour of California in February, cycling enthusiasts around the country had the opportunity to participate in the Breakaway from Cancer™ charity rides in Washington D.C. (November 12), San Francisco (December 3) and Thousand Oaks (February 11). Each ride encompassed a moderate 25-mile course and was open to all levels of experienced riders. Read more
